Symposium Framework
Al-Quds is a holy city that is one of the important religious centers for Islam, has hosted many prophets' struggle for tawhid, and has a quite distinguished position in the eyes of Muslims not only because it is the first qibla of Muslims, but also because of the signs present in verses and hadiths. Al-Quds, which also hosts many sacred places and structures belonging to Islamic civilization, especially the Masjid al-Qibla and the Qubbat al-Sakhra, is also a living witness and a living document of Islamic history.
Muslims used to turn towards this city for prayers until 624 Considered a holy land through the explicit declaration in Surah Isra, this city is a glorious place that also houses the Masjid al-Aqsa, one of the three masjids where one can go on a journey for worship. For this reason, al-Quds is considered one of the three "harim" cities in Islam after Mecca and Madinah.
Al-Quds, which has been ruled by many different states throughout history due to its religious, cultural, and geopolitical value, has implications beyond merely a piece of land in global history for monotheistic faiths and other countries, and has never lost its significance. Following Omar's (ra) victory, Al-Quds was liberated and became one of the Islamic towns of peace, where the culture of coexistence was exhibited to the entire humanity, not just to Muslims but also to people of other beliefs.
Throughout history, Christians, Jews, and Muslims have presented numerous theological, scientific, and literary works regarding Al-Quds, which has a wide range of religious and cultural diversity. The Republic of Türkiye maintains its interest and support in al-Quds and Masjid al-Aqsa, where it considers as a historical and religious heritage. Türkiye has been carrying out the necessary works to address all sorts of issues and demands of Muslims living in al-Quds, as well as to revitalize our history there.
The Presidency of Religious Affairs has commenced Umrah tours via al-Quds in 2015, and in order to achieve more participation in "al-Quds and Umrah tours via al-Quds" and to raise public awareness on al-Quds, and it renamed the Department of Umrah Services of the Directorate General of Hajj and Umrah Services as the "Department of Umrah and Visits to Al-Quds," on 14.07.2020.
Our people's intense interest in al-Quds tours as well as Umrah tours via al-Quds, which demonstrates a steady increase every year, adds to the religious and historical responsibility of our Presidency regarding al-Quds and Masjid al-Aqsa. In this context, the Presidency of Religious Affairs of Türkiye has decided to organize the "International Symposium on al-Quds and Masjid al-Aqsa" to raise awareness about our religious, cultural and historical heritage, especially al-Quds and Masjid al-Aqsa.
